meeting notes :: december 21

Here are the meeting notes from the design meeting on Tuesday, Dec 21:

designs ::
-we need to push ourselves more than we have been, stylistically.
-in "pushing" the style, don't be caught up with anatomy-- let yourself go kind of crazy
-think: organic shapes
-go further than you think you should in pushing the style, then we can reel it back in later
-we should comment on each others' posts on this blog! let's help each other out.

the plan ::
From now until Christmas (this week), take a break from Estefan. Draw whatever you want to draw, whether than be heads in bottles (like Jeff) or birds on wires (like me). Have fun with drawing. If you need to, take a break from drawing if it helps.

alternative approach :: 
If you feel like you still have some fuel, or you'd like to direct your fun drawings, take some time to get to know the style that Scott presented to us.

-Emulation is helpful--make some of the drawings we have as examples a low opacity. Print them out and draw on them, making notes about how the artist makes his creative choices in drawing the image. Or just draw them lots and make sure you are thinking as you draw.
-Drawing silhouettes are helpful as well. Our film is very silhouette-driven. This is very important that the shapes in the silhouettes are iconic and helps the characters to read well.
-Another approach to silhouettes are just starting with shapes and as soon as you get a really interesting shape, mold it into the character (or the character into it).
-Research will be crucial during this film and it might help get you excited if you research now.
-Remember that our deadlines still stand as they do now. However, the things that will actually be due on those days are pending, so look for Scott's e-mail with the specifics.

Also, this blog can act as an inspiration board for us. If you find something that gets you excited about...whatever, and think others will benefit from seeing it, go ahead and post. Just make sure you title it "random fun stuff" or whatever...just to keep our chaos organized....

Jeff and Scott don't want to hear us say "I didn't enjoy my break because I was drawing Estefan.."

You know yourself; don't push past your limits yet. We need excitement and energy as we start the semester! After all, it's....esteFAAAANNNnnn!
